There was a great turnout this week for the skyline run with 23 walkers and runners enjoying a lovely warm, sunny evening in the Pentland Hills. The conditions were ideal with good dry paths and calm conditions – certainly the best we have had in recent years. 11 runners set out from Nine Mile Burn and at various speeds completed the skyline back to Flotterstone. The route takes us steadily up Monks Rig past the font stone then we have the steeper climb up West Kip. Glad to be onto the ‘tops’ we then head for East Kip and South Black Hill before our highest peak at 579m of Scald Law. All downhill from here (sort of) we head down to the ‘Old Kirk Road’ where the walkers route joins us from the A702, then up and over Carnethy Hill, White Craigs Head and the final peak of Turnhouse Hill before the last fabulous 2km downhill back to Flotterstone. 8 walkers/runners completed the shorter route, 4 others did their ‘own thing’ and 2 came along for the pub!
We had a great turnout from ESOC and it was lovely to be joined also by Kirsten and Ian from Roxburgh Reivers and the McIntyre and Alston couples from Interlopers.
I took a minute longer than last year, which I was delighted about, and finished in 1 hour 41mins; but I’m sure regardless of times we all felt a great sense of achievement for what we individually accomplished and a great feeling of satisfaction at being out in the hills on such a lovely Monday evening.
At various times we all arrived back at the Flotterstone Inn and it was lovely to relax and chat over a drink and bar supper. The pre-ordering of food seemed to work well and we are very grateful to the staff at the Flotterstone for accommodating us.
Join us for this event next year - you really will not regret it!
