March Social 2013Monday 4 March

Read about what happened at the March social.

There was a huge and enthusiastic turnout for the March social at the Lessells' home in Murrayfield. In celebration of Bill Gauld's 80th birthday, the idea of the run was to accumulate points to a total of 80 (or less if age handicapped) by visiting various control sites in the local area. The digits in the number answer found at each site were added together until a single digit answer was achieved, and these numbers were added together, simple! Of course there were time penalties for being out for over an hour.

The handicap system may have been to the advantage of the more senior runners, and this may have been reflected in the results, with Bill Gauld being triumphant for the men (followed by Ian, then Martin) and Eleanor being the ladies winner (followed by Janet, then Anne). Special mention also to Andrew Lindsay for achieving the closest total to 80 (although well over time) and to Fran who, by some convoluted adding system, claimed to have achieved the exact 80.....

Delicious bread, cheese and cakes followed, and an opportunity to look at various memorabilia from ESOC and Bill's history, before Margaret said a few words, Happy Birthday was sung and the cake was cut. Read more about the evening in the April-May Capital-O.

Many thanks to all those who contributed, but especially to Katy and Alastair for hosting the evening.
