May Social 2014 - Hash RunWednesday 7 May
The good citizens of Morningside didn't know what hit them when ESOC hashers were spotted running through the area shouting out strange phrases!!
About 25 ESOCers turned out for our annual hash run, which was planned and organised by Ian Jackson and hosted by Janice from her home in Church Hill. Despite a seemingly endless list of potential problems that the trail laying may have encountered, the event ran smoothly and as planned, and only the clever use of a ‘back check’ seemed to cause the power walkers a little bit of head scratching. So the wind didn’t blow away the flour, the rain never arrived to wash away the chalk, the grass cutters failed to mow away the trail, the wheelie bins didn’t conceal the route and, with clever planning, the fitter legs could run all the false trails and allow the slower legs to catch up - a run (walk) for all, and enjoyed by all, and it was especially nice to see some of our junior members being able to join in and have fun. Our grateful thanks to Ian for planning two great courses in an area which, perhaps, didn’t give him a great deal of choice especially in the ‘off-road’ sections.
Back to Janice’s for a lovely buffet and lots of O chat with the Scottish and British Champs around the corner and relay teams to organise. New O tops to try on and order - apparently they are more ‘camouflaged’ in the woods so less potential to be watched as you go wrong! And a big birthday cake for a big birthday - Congratulations Brian! Many thanks to Janice for hosting a super evening.
