Middle Distance Race, Touch Estate - 27 March 2010

The first day of the FVO Spring Weekend was a great event.

Touch Estate is near Stirling; it’s a very complex wooded area with many little hills and crags that look remarkably similar, providing a great technical challenge. A Middle Distance event has relatively short courses with many controls close together, requiring fine navigation and rapid decision-making. At this event, there were 4 courses, which looped around the area in 2 parts, with back-to-back maps. There was a huge entry, though relatively few from ESOC, which was a pity, as it was excellent fun. A spectator control and open finish area with commentary made for exciting viewing.

Best ESOC results were:
Men Open (138 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 91st (11th M16)
Veteran Men (103) – Mark Wood 23rd (7th M40), Clive Masson 25th (8th M40), Dave Kershaw 43rd (2nd M60), Roger Scrutton 64th (6th M60)
Women Open (95) – Helen Bridle 4th (4th W21); Rona Lindsay 22nd (3rd W16)
Veteran Women (67) – Chris McLeod 11th (3rd W50)

Full results, Routegadget and other details about the event are available on the FVO website - Touch Woods results page.
