October Turf Event and Social 2025Thursday 30th October, Drumbrae and Corstorphine

A select few Turfers enjoyed a fabulous event in dry and cool conditions which incorporated urban based zones and a fair few on the wooded and open slopes of Corstorphine Hill. We then met for a natter in the warmth of the Spice Lounge, Drumbrae.

Artful was the planner of the event and he cunningly set a theme for the zone names, which if worked out correctly would gain a prize! Turfers had to look for clues to four songs from a specific film/show which was related to the time of year. Most zones were two consecutive words from one of four songs in the film/show and were the initial of the first word followed by the second word. For example, if the song were Flower Of Scotland, then the zone for 'Of Scotland' would be 'OScotland', 'When Will' would be 'WWill' etc. Three zones set very close together also spelled out a well known word from a fifth song.

The early pace in the event was set by Christmas2, whilst sjami44 and MarkkuEsoc squabbled over zones on Corstorphine Hill which proved to be quite slow going in the dark and amidst the Rhododendrons. ESOCWalter ambled around and concentrated more on solving the zone names conundrum whilst JammyDognut succumbed to a muscle injury that slowed his progress. Ultimately Christmas2 could not be caught and took a commanding victory from MarkkuEsoc and sjami44. Full results are here

All then gathered at the Spice Lounge, along with ESOCJanet, for some post event catch up and chips. The three prize winners received some chocolates; Christmas2 for the event win, sjami44 for 3rd and best newcomer, whilst ESOCWalter worked out the zone names all came from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The songs referenced were Science Fiction Double Feature, Over At The Frankenstein Place, Time Warp and Planet, Schamet, Janet. The three close zones by the Clermiston Road spelled out 'Anticipation'.

Thank you very much to Artful for his efforts on the planning side.
