Masterplan Adventure organised a packed weekend of 3 orienteering events in tough and technical west coast terrain, incorporating SOL1 at Corranbuie.

After the universally acknowledged triumph of their 2022 Coast & Islands summer multi-day event, the Masterplan Adventure team revisited the same areas for this first SOL weekend of 2024. There was a Middle race on the Saturday morning at the intricate knoll-infested coastal forest of Torinturk, 3 UltraSprint loops on offer Saturday evening around the fast & furious Tarbert Castle earthworks, and finally a Long distance race on Sunday (first of the Scottish Orienteering League) at the typically "Scottish tough" forest of Corranbuie. Mairi Eades and Alasdair Pedley planned some varied and challenging courses, including scenic vista opportunities for the leisurely.

There were some excellent efforts from the ESOC contingent, both the more and less experienced! After wins at Corranbuie, we have a few ESOC-ers now leading in their respective SOL classes: Megan Brown in W16A, Judy Bell in W55S, Mary Williams in W70L, and Eleanor Pyrah in W80 (Eleanor pictured recovering from her effort!). Notably, Catherine MacColl finished her first Masterplan Adventure course in 9 attempts (including a saga of snow, dropped glasses, and various other mishaps more or less related to the orienteering!).

SOL 2 is coming up at Balfour Forest on 21st April, with all to play for! See you there!
