Scottish Sprint Champs 2026, CumbernauldSaturday 30th May
An ESOC podium of Anna, Rachael and Hannah for the WV was the highlight of this year's Scottish Sprint championship, but there were also firsts for Ingrid, Luke, Calum, Helen and Ewart with a third place for Les to make a fantastic 9 podium places for the club.
The Scottish Sprint championship was held in two different areas of new town, Cumbernauld. STAG orienteering club put on Race 1 in the Condorrat area with Race 2 in Westfield, and the base indoors at Saint Maurice's High School. Each race was a similar length and the times were combined to give an overall result. Everyone was given exactly 2h to recover between start times. The first race was sunny and hot in an area of many shallow steps with several curved garage buildings and parking areas. The start and finish were in the same playing field with competitors socialising at the end to cheer their club mates in. Those with an earlier start in the second race experienced rain and cooler conditions, but out came the sun again for the later starters. Westfield comprised an intricate housing and path network with a marshalled crossing. Fast and furious racing for all age groups, but with excellent results for ESOC.
