September Social 2015Monday 7 September

On a lovely evening for urban running, the good weather was an added bonus for this early Autumn social. Mark and Jeni planned a score event surrounding their home in Alnwickhill.

Jeni, Mark, Adam and Catherine Rowe were the hosts of the September social from their home in Alnwickhill. Runners were treated to a warm welcome, particularly from Adam who was very excited about our run around his school and neighbourhood and who tried very hard not to give us any clues to the answers! He waved the chequered flag and we were off on a score around the neighbouring streets and bridle paths. There were 40 ‘controls’ we could choose to visit - some worth 2 points and most worth 1 - so route choice was paramount - as was finding any energy following the Wolf weekend! Lots of interesting places were found: Seven Acre Park (committee chaired by Jeni); a hidden park at Liberton; an ancient well behind the Toby Carvery; and lots of toadstools, door colours and animals! There were 12 runners and route choice was very varied, so it was never the case of chasing anyone down but more bumping into them unexpectedly on a corner. I started off with ambitious intentions and soon realised that my legs had weary limits and the distant far scorers had to be missed out. The winners of the 45 min score were Margaret D and Terry, and the 60 min score Andrew D and me.

We were joined back at the house by several non-runners and enjoyed a lovely buffet, drink and chat with fellow club members. It was a really super evening with wonderful hosts - so nice to spend an evening in a family home and to be made so welcome! Many thanks to the Rowe family!
