Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOL1 - Auchingarrich, Comrie

There were many good results from ESOC members at the first event of 2009’s Scottish Orienteering League.

There was fine weather and a huge attendance at this TAY event, as many people who had travelled for the Sprint Championships the day before stayed to make a weekend of it. The assembly area was at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park, and longer courses used part of the old Mill of Fortune map, scene of previous SOL events, which has now been badly affected by clear-felling. The main part of the area was newly mapped, with remarkable amounts of dark green and a network of rides to navigate through it. (Opinions varied – some loved the area, others hated it.)
The new event structure meant there was a full range of colour-coded courses instead of the previous age classes, and some courses had a very large entry.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Black (22 finishers) – Andrew Dalgleish 10th
Short Brown (54) – Walter Clark 26th
Blue (92) – Andrew Lindsay 15th, Mike Stewart 36th, Roger Scrutton 43rd
Short Blue (72) – Ian Pyrah 20th, Alison Cunningham 29th
Green (60) – Rona Lindsay 6th, Janice Nisbet 14th, Bill Gauld 17th, Daniel Forth 19th
Short Green (31) – Eleanor Pyrah 4th, Janet Clark 14th
Light Green (39) – Craig Nolan 8th
