Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOL1, Trossachs - 28 March 2010

This year’s Scottish Orienteering League got off to a fantastic start in a very tough area.

The Trossachs lived up to its reputation, and as this was a World Ranking Event and selection race, there was a large entry from all over the country. Courses had lots of climb over very rough terrain, involving many crags and steep slopes, and hardly any paths. The final details contained various warnings about the dangers, and there were some long times and retirals, but many very satisfied competitors who enjoyed the opportunity to orienteer here. A dramatic downhill finish and commentary added to the atmosphere. The expected rain fortunately held off until most had departed.

ESOC results in the top half were:
W212E (26 competitors) – Helen Bridle 5th
Blue (121) – Andrew Lindsay 3rd; Craig Nolan 15th, Dave Kershaw 59th, Roger Scrutton 60th
Short Blue (75) – Claire Ward 1st, Ray Ward 2nd, Alison Cunningham 17th, Sally Lindsay 25th, Neil Williams 31st
Green (79) – Rona Lindsay 4th, Bill Gauld 30th
Short Green (40) – Clare Williams 5th
Light Green (45) – Gavin Williams 21st
