SOL2 - Polmaise & Sauchie, 3 April 2011
The second event in the 2011 Scottish Orienteering League was organised by FVO, with a large turnout from ESOC.
Polmaise and Sauchie are two neighbouring wooded hills just outside Stirling. Only the longer courses visited Polmaise, where there were old quarry workings, many paths and a lot of dark green on the map (rhododendrons). Sauchie was visited by all courses - the terrain is quite complex, with many steep-sided valleys and little hills, as well as being rough underfoot. Careful navigation was required to keep in contact with the map. A heavy shower added to the challenge, though warm sunshine later made up for it.
ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (30 competitors) – Claire Ward 2nd, Andrew Lindsay 9th
Blue (72) – Rona Lindsay 8th, Craig Nolan 12th, Dave Kershaw 22nd, Crawford Lindsay 25th, Finlay Ross 26th, Helena Nolan 32nd
Short Blue (37) – Alison Cunningham 5th, Neil Williams 16th
Green (66) – Anne Stevenson 15th, Ian Pyrah 31st, Bill Gauld 33rd
Short Green (30) – Eleanor Pyrah 4th, Clare Williams 8th, Jim Clark 9th, Norma Coutts 10th, Janet Clark 12th
Yellow (26) – Kerry Wood 8th, Ben Brown 12th
