SoSOL 3, 2025Calder Wood, 6 April
The third event in the 2025 South of Scotland Orienteering League took place near Livingston, organised by Interløpers. It was originally planned for exactly one year earlier, but had to be postponed due to Storm Kathleen. This year the weather was a complete contrast.
Alison Harding writes:
“Oh what a beautiful morning, absolutely perfect for orienteering. Great parking in the industrial estate backing on to the wilderness area of Calder Wood, which is small but has a great variety of terrain. It is a flat-topped area with steep slopes down to the rivers which more or less border the area. The main path network is well maintained and provides a focus for returning from the wilder river banks. The wooded area is open and pretty runnable with some tricky brown features lower down providing some physical exertion on the slopes. The last control was reached via a tunnel under the road and an uphill finish.
28 members of ESOC appear in the results with 16 reaching the colour standard for the course. The event was well planned and organised; many thanks to Interløpers.”
ESOC results in the top half:
- Blue (31 competitors) – Richard Oxlade 9th, Megan Brown 12th, Kevin Harding 14th, Keith Brown 15th
- Green (46) – William Atkinson 6th, Alison Harding 11th, Alistair Armitage 15th
- Short Green (14) – Mary Williams 7th
