SoSOL 7, 2024Balloch Country Park, 15 September

Just a few ESOC members travelled west for the seventh event in the 2024 South of Scotland Orienteering League, which was organised by Clydeside Orienteers.

Balloch is NW of Glasgow, at the southern end of Loch Lomond, and the country park lies on sloping land on the eastern shore of the loch and along the River Leven. The terrain is surprisingly varied, with deciduous woodland, open parkland, formal gardens and meadows, around the 19th Century Balloch Castle. There was dense vegetation in places (including brambles) and a few showers meant that the long grass was very wet. Courses covered most of the park, and there were double-sided maps for Blue and Brown. The weather was mostly fine.

ESOC results:

  • Blue (18 competitors) – Martin Quirke 6th, Katherine Kirk 10th, Crawford Lindsay 13th
  • Green (20) – Sally Lindsay 12th, Margaret Dalgleish 14th, Les Dalgleish 15th
  • Orange (13) – Steve Clayton 7th

Further details about the event, plus full results, are available on the Balloch Country Park event page of the CLYDE website.
