SoSOL4 - Drumpellier Country Park
The first South of Scotland Orienteering League event of 2009, organised by STAG, was well-attended, with ESOC members competing successfully in most classes.
Drumpellier Country Park is near Coatbridge, east of Glasgow. The main entrance and Visitor Centre are by a loch, with large numbers of water birds, and the surrounding area includes lowland heath, mixed woodlands and open grassland. It’s surprisingly wild in places, and was very wet underfoot after the recent rain. Because it’s reasonably flat, the courses were longer than usual, and the longest ones had 2-part maps, allowing the use of multiple loops which made the most of the area.
The weather was mainly dry, and quite cold, with a snow shower later. Many people enjoyed the café in the Visitor Centre after their runs.
ESOC members in the top ten were:
White – Ben Brown, Rachel Brown, Kerry Wood
Orange – Rehan Mackenzie
Light Green – Neil Williams, Adam Hunter, Claire Williams, Jack Conway,
Gavin Williams
Green – Mark Wood, Keith Brown, Janice Nisbet
Blue – Mike Stewart
Brown – Andrew Dalgleish
