Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL9 - Binning Wood, East Lothian

There was a big turnout from ESOC for ELO’s South of Scotland League event.

Binning Wood is near Dunbar, and is an area of mixed woodland originally planted in the 18th century, formerly part of Tyninghame Estate. It has an intricate system of tracks and rides crossing at various angles, and several large circular grassy areas with many paths converging on them, so care was needed to make sure you were on the right path. The area is fairly flat, but the most obvious route was not necessarily the quickest, as there were many rhododendron thickets to contend with, as well as fallen trees and lots of mud. The weather was mild and dry, with very little wind, a welcome change from the previous day.

Top ten places for ESOC members were as follows:
White: Ben Brown, Rachel Brown
Light Green: Mehmet Karatay, Gemma Richards, Neil Williams, Imogen Beck
Green: Andrew Dalgleish, Keith Brown
Blue: Walter Clark
Brown: Clive Masson
