The fourth Scottish Orienteering Urban League event of 2022 was organised by Masterplan Adventure, as part of the 2022 Sprint Scotland weekend.
Menzieshill is on the west side of Dundee, and the event centre was at St Ninian’s Primary School. The terrain was a complex mix of modern housing, with many groups of similar blocks, pathways and steps, and grassed areas between them. Uncrossable walls and fences, as well as the hilly terrain, provided plenty of route choice challenges.
For most ESOC competitors, this was a 2-part Sprint event. The first race was on the west and north part of the hill, while the second was mostly to the east of the event centre, with a little overlap between the two races.
For the Men’s and Women’s Open classes, the event was a Knock-Out Sprint, with the first race as the qualifier, followed by 3 races in the afternoon: a Quarter Final, Semi Final and Final.
ESOC results in the top half:
W Open (28 competitors) – Helen Bridle 9th
M Vet (13) – Martin Quirke 3rd
M Supervet (12) – Keith Brown 5th
M Ultravet (11) – Les Dalgleish 5th
W Ultravet (9) – Margaret Dalgleish 5th
Results, Routegadget and other details about the event (including the complicated qualification rules for the Knock-Out Sprint) are on the Sprint Scotland 2022 website.
