World Masters Orienteering Championships
This week sees the World Masters Orienteering Championships taking place in Switzerland, there are a number of ESOC members taking part. The sprint took place over the weekend with the Long Qualification race tomorrow.
The Sprint qualification took place on Saturday in La Chaux-de-Fonds, with 5 members of ESOC looking to make the A finals. Janice Nisbet (W55) and Eleanor Pyrah (W65) both made the A final comfortably with top 10 placings in their respective heats. Both Ian Pyrah (M65) and Marion MacCormick (W65) were a bit further off the pace but made the B final, with Brian Yates (M65) making the D final. Results can be found on the Swiss Orienteering website.
The sprint final saw some consistent running from Janice and Eleanor to both come 28th in their respective age classes, a good showing given the 80 competitors who made the A final. Ian made up for missing the A final by producing a fantastic run to win the B final by 2 seconds in a closely fought race, congratulations! You can find the ESOC Results for the Sprint Finals here.
The Long Distance qualification takes place both tomorrow and Wednesday with a race each day, the finals are later in the week. Hope everyone produces good runs!
