Explanation of event types

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun App.

Overview

January afternoons are usually cold, and this one was not the worst by any means. It was good weather for running, and great to see warm happy people arriving at the Finish! Covenanters Wood is usually muddy, and today it was not at its worst, though slippery enough, specially on the slopes above the river.
Nearly a hundred people made a great start to the New Year by coming to this event. Hopefully they will all come to lots more, starting with our Cammo event next Saturday 15th January,
Coldest of all were the volunteers who made the event possible; special thanks to Mark, Terry, Keith, Sam, Jim and Malcolm.
See you all next week!

Directions / Parking

The entrance to the wood which will be used for this event is close to the main gate of Dreghorn Barracks, Redford Road, Edinburgh.

If you live in the City it is very easy to get to this event by public transport, walking or biking. Please use public transport, walk or use a bicycle to get to the event if you are able to do so.

By bus: Service 16, Lothian Buses, stops very close to the event. This is a very regular service even at weekends. Check Lothian Buses website for more information. The closest stops are the 2 immediately after the roundabout at Dreghorn Link. The first stop is just before the wood and the second one is just after it.

By bike: A variety of quiet cycle route maps throughout the city are available on the Edinburgh City Council Quiet Routes web pages. There are railings next to the entrance to the wood where bikes can be chained.

By car: If you need to drive to get to the event the postcode given is for nearby houses in Dreghorn Park. This is for general area guidance only e.g. for satnavs, please don't turn into or park within Dreghorn Park. Parking will be on the main road, Redford Road, which is wide near the wood. The part of Redford Road closest to the start and finish is near the flashing 30mph sign. Please take care when entering and exiting your car as the road is busy.

Although there is no parking restriction there, it would be helpful if you could avoid parking directly outside the Barracks.
