Explanation of event types
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun App.

Planners’ Comments
It was a pleasure to plan courses in such a diverse and scenic area, combining the beautiful grounds of Lauriston Castle with the open fields and coastal paths around Cramond, including the Lauriston Farm area. It was lovely to see so many people attending this event, especially so many families and future generations of orienteers.
The castle grounds provided a technical but fair challenge for junior and intermediate courses, with plenty of opportunities for changes in direction and short route choices, alongside lovely views of Fife and the coast. I aimed to give runners a sense of the terrain’s variety, with courses designed to take advantage of the rich path network, without becoming overly complex.
Out on the foreshore and surrounding fields, the longer courses featured more physical legs with some route choices around field boundaries and through Cramond village. I tried to create a good balance between navigation and running, especially on the return legs, where runners could choose between road, track, or more adventurous off-road routes heading back East.
Thank you to everyone who helped with control collection and contributed to making this event a success, especially the Lauriston Farm managers, who kindly allowed us access to their fields despite the area currently undergoing agricultural development. I hope you all enjoyed the challenge and the beautiful setting!

Organisers' Comments
Couldn't hope for a much better Local Event than this! Warm sunshine, lovely parkland, scenic long runs along to Cramond; something for everyone. Many young families tried orienteering for the first time. A skilful and experienced team of ESOC volunteers helped everyone to get the best out of the event.Thank you very much to one and all

Safety Notes
- Other Users: The Lauriston Castle and the Cramond Foreshore areas are very well used by the general public, including dog walkers, runners and bikers. Please respect their right to be there at the same time as you are orienteering.
Please respect the Out of Bounds areas in the Castle and Lauriston Farm grounds.
- Dogs: Competitor’s dogs are allowed and should be kept under very close control at all times.
- SAFETY NOTE RE DOGS: Please give any dog walkers you encounter whilst running on your course extra space ie don’t run too close, especially if their dog/dogs are off lead. This applies to all competitors, not just those running with a dog. We always need to respect other people's right to be there.
- Course Closure Time: All courses have a closure time of 4pm after which controls will start to be brought in (before it gets dark. All competitors should be back at Download by 3pm.
- You must report to Download even if you do not complete your course, so we know you are back safely, and we don’t have to mount a search for you.
- Please check the weather forecast on the day and dress appropriately. This event is mostly in the grounds of Lauriston Castle although some of the courses go out outwith the estate on pavements and grassy slopes, so please wear the most appropriate footwear for the course you are entering. It can be very cool and windy on this area, even on a fine Spring day, due to proximity to the Firth of Forth.
