British Night Championships 2016Cademan and Thringstone Woods, 27 February
Just a few ESOC members travelled to the Midlands for this event - congratulations to Claire Ward, who retained the Women’s Champion trophy.
The 2016 British Night Championships event was organised by Leicestershire Orienteering Club, and took place near Loughborough. The terrain was very complex, with small hills, rock features, some deep ponds and patches of dense undergrowth, all criss-crossed by a confusing network of paths. The weather was fine, though cool, and in places it was very muddy underfoot. There were some very long times and many retirals.
Claire Ward won W21L; Sally Lindsay came 2nd in W60L; Crawford Lindsay came 18th in M60L and Andrew Lindsay came 18th in M21L.

On Sunday 28 February, the Midland Championships took place not far away in Sherwood Forest, north of Nottingham, organised by Nottinghamshire Orienteering Club. The terrain was a complete contrast with the night before, being open oak forest and semi-open heathland, mostly very runnable, so the courses were quite long. The weather was ideal, cool with sunny intervals, and underfoot conditions were good.
Andrew Lindsay came 15th in M21E; Crawford Lindsay came 25th in M60L; Sally Lindsay came 11th in W60L.
