Dorking Urban Event6 May 2013
Most of the ESOC contingent stayed on after the British Championships for another day, and enjoyed the Dorking Urban Event, presented by Mole Valley Orienteering Club.
This was the 4th race in this year’s Nopesport Urban League. Dorking is a small market town, with many historic buildings, and is quite hilly. The courses snaked around the town, through narrow streets and back alleys in the oldest parts, wider streets with more modern houses, a tricky multi-level area by the council offices, and finally some easy controls through a public park with a lake, then uphill to the finish.
For many, the biggest challenge was crossing the busy road in the centre of the town. It was a warm and sunny day.
ESOC results were:
Men Open (65 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 15th
Super Veteran Men (98) – Crawford Lindsay 40th
Ultra Veteran Men (68) – Ian Pyrah 7th, Roger Scrutton 8th, Brian Yates 52nd
Super Veteran Women (56) – Sally Lindsay 14th, Janice Nisbet 17th
Ultra Veteran Women (41) – Eleanor Pyrah 3rd
