ELO Festive Frolic 2014John Muir Country Park, 28 December

There was a great turnout from ESOC for the East Lothian Orienteers’ Christmas event, on a crisp, sunny day.

John Muir Country Park is on the East Lothian coast, just west of Dunbar. The area includes mature pine forest, fairly flat with a good path network, and coastal dunes with complex contours amongst marram grass.
The event was a 60-minute score, with a mass start. There were 24 controls, each worth 10 points, and 7 of them had an additional challenge worth 20 points. The very varied challenges included climbing a rope to reach an extra control box, doing a jigsaw, throwing quoits, and collecting water from the river. As usual there were penalty points for anyone late back.
Registration and download were in the café of the East Links Family Park, and the indoor facilities, food and drink were much appreciated while the results were worked out.
Andrew Lindsay gained the maximum possible score (380) and won the event. Prizes were also awarded to Rona Lindsay (4th overall, 1st woman, with 355 points); Crawford Lindsay (8th overall, 1st superveteran man, with 325 points); Helena Nolan (12th overall, 3rd woman, with 304 points); Margaret Dalgleish (22nd overall, 1st superveteran woman, with 269 points).

Other ESOC members in the top half of the results were as follows (there were 81 competitors):
Andrew Dalgleish 5th, Walter Clark 6th, Jonathan Ellis 7th, Mark Wood 10th, Heather Thomson 13th, Raphael Bleakley 14th, Craig Nolan 16th, Andrea Davison 25th, Andy McLeod 26th, Jamie Flett & Moira Findlay 28th, Chris McLeod 30th, Robert Findlay 31st, Alastair Lessells 34th, Sally Lindsay 36th, Fiona Findlay 37th, Ronnie Nolan 38th,
