ESOA Championships 2014 & SoSOL4The Hirsel, 23 November
There was a good turnout from ESOC for the East of Scotland Championships, which was also the 4th event in the South of Scotland Orienteering League for 2014/15.
The Hirsel Estate is just west of Coldstream, in Berwickshire. The terrain was mostly fairly typical for a country park, with woodland, fields and parkland around a lake, with some steep slopes, and the longer courses visited an area of dense rhododendron thickets and deep ditches, which was more challenging. The weather was dull at first, then the sky cleared to give a glorious afternoon of autumn sunshine, though it was wet and muddy underfoot after recent rain, and the river (the Leet Water) was very full.
ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (9 competitors) – Claire Ward 1st
Blue (33) – Mike Stewart 4th, Heather Thomson 8th, Crawford Lindsay 15th, Roger Garnett 16th
Green (39) – Alastair Lessells 5th, Roger Scrutton 11th, Ian Pyrah 13th, Margaret Dalgleish 14th, Judy Bell 17th, Sally Lindsay 20th
Short Green (15) – Eleanor Pyrah 3rd, Steve Clayton 5th, Jim Clark 6th, Katy Lessells 7th, Fiona Findlay 8th
Orange (6) – Rachel Brown 1st
Congratulations to all the ESOC trophy winners in the East of Scotland Championships:
Rachel Brown (W12), Claire Ward (W21), Judy Bell (W45), Margaret Dalgleish (W60), Eleanor Pyrah (W70), Andrew Lindsay (M20), Roger Garnett (M60), Ian Pyrah (M70), Jim Clark (M75)
