ESOC at the 2021 VHISurrey, 4/5 December

2 ESOC members were in the Scotland team at the 2021 Veteran Home International.

The 2021 Veteran Home International was hosted by South London Orienteers and took place on 4/5 December 2021, in Surrey.

The Individual event was on Saturday, at Winterfold & Pitch Hill, SW of Dorking in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This area was used for the 2013 British Orienteering Championships, and is on a ridge, dissected by steep-sided valleys. The vegetation is mainly deciduous woodland and much of the forest floor is carpeted with bilberry.
Janice Nisbet came 3rd in W65 and Brian Yates came 4th in M65.

The Relays were on Sunday at Glovers Wood, close to Gatwick Airport. Here the terrain is a mixture of ancient semi-natural woodland and growth over abandoned areas of medieval farming with banks and ditches, plus a stream running through the wood in a deep gully. There are 2 classes in the relays: WMW (2 women plus 1 man), and MWM (2 men plus 1 woman). The aggregate of each team’s BOF ages must be 145 or greater.
In WMW, Janice Nisbet ran 1st leg in the Scotland 1 team, who came 7th.

England won the overall competition, and Scotland came second. Further details about the weekend can be found on the 2021 VHI event page of the SLOW website, and the results are available here:
