Glasgow Parks Championships 201016 January 2011
The 12th Glasgow Parks Championships, with races in 3 different Glasgow parks, had ESOC prizewinners in three of the classes.
The Glasgow Parks Championships is an annual competition, featuring three separate events in one day. The location of the first park is announced just before the event, and the others are only revealed on the day. The first two races have allocated start times, with a chasing start for the final race.
This event was postponed from 5 December (due to snow and ice). Fortunately the weather was dry, though it was very wet underfoot, after heavy rain the day before.
The first race was at Bellahouston Park, south of the river, a large city park with a wooded hill in the middle. Then it was back along the M8 for the second race, at Tollcross Park, where the area was split by a surprisingly deep small stream. Both the first two venues had sports centres with indoor facilities and cafes. The third race, to general surprise, was at Drumpellier Country Park, which has one corner within Glasgow City boundary and was therefore deemed to be a Glasgow park. This had rougher terrain, and lots of marshy ground.
Congratulations to the ESOC prizewinners:
Helen Bridle – Women Open
Mary Williams – Women Super Veteran
Crawford Lindsay – Men Super Veteran
Other ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Women Open (12 competitors) – Rona Lindsay 5th
Women Veteran (16) – Helena Nolan 2nd, Maggie Scrugham 8th
Women Super Veteran (5) – Janice Nisbet 2nd, Margaret Dalgleish 3rd
Men Veteran (22) – Mark Wood 11th
Men Super Veteran (10) – Les Dalgleish 5th
Andrew Lindsay came second in the “Guess the Parks” competition, having correctly predicted Bellahouston Park as the venue for the first race.
Full results from the event are available in the STAG Results Archive.
