Glasgow Parks Championships 2022Sunday 21 August
There was a good turnout from ESOC for the 23rd Glasgow Parks Championships, on a beautiful day.
The Glasgow Parks Championships is an annual competition, with three separate short events in one day. It’s always a good social event, and many people have attended for years. The 2022 venues were all south of the Clyde, and start times were allocated in advance for all three.
The first race took place at Linn Park. This is a large park with woods and open grassland sloping down to the White Cart Water. The start was on the south side of the park, and the courses visited a wide variety of terrain around the old mansion house in the centre of the park.
The second race was further north, at Queen’s Park, which lies on a hill, and has some formal paths and gardens, as well as rougher wooded areas. The event centre was at the pavilion by the old bowling greens on the east side of the park, with the start and finish close by, and the courses zigzagged around the hill.
The third race was just to the west, in Pollok Country Park, with the start and finish near the Nether Pollok playing fields in the east of the park. Pollok Park has many tracks and paths through varied terrain including woodland and open parkland. Courses looped around the woodland, and there were some tricky control sites.
The weather was fine and mostly sunny, with good underfoot conditions.
ESOC’s best result was from Alison Cunningham, who won the Super Veteran Women’s trophy.
Other ESOC members in the top half of the overall results were:
Open (9 competitors) – Ben Brown 4th
Veteran Women (10) – Hanne Robertson 3rd, Judy Bell 5th
Supervet Men (14) – Keith Brown 3rd
Ultravet Men (11) – Crawford Lindsay 3rd
Ultravet Women (5) – Sally Lindsay 2nd
Junior Women (5) – Zoe Clark 3rd
