Scottish Junior Cup – Round 1Auchingarrich, 30 May

Some ESOC juniors competed at the first event of the new league for Scottish juniors, on a lovely sunny day.

The Scottish Junior Cup is a league of three events during the spring and summer of 2021, offering a set of high quality, fun, and competitive races, open to all junior orienteers in Scotland with age classes from M/W12 to M/W18. Results from each race will count towards an overall league for each age class, with all 3 races to count for final positions. The series is being planned and organised by parents of juniors in the area squads and ScotJOS.

The first event took place at Auchingarrich on Sunday 30 May, and 80 juniors competed. (There were also races for the adults who were there.) Auchingarrich is near Comrie, in Perthshire. This area was used for Day 1 of the Scottish 6-Days in 2019. It’s quite hilly, with a lot of conifer plantations, some open land with birch trees, and grassy fields towards the finish. The forest has a reputation for being quite confusing.

ESOC’s best junior result came from Rachel Brown, who won W18L (the Blue course). The other ESOC juniors were Calum Robertson (M12A), Fraser Lupton (M14A), Robyn Lupton (W12A), and Megan Brown (W14A).

Full results are available on the Junior Cup - Auchingarrich page of the Scottish Orienteering Association website.

Round 2 will be at Tentsmuir North, in Fife, on Sunday 29 August.
