Scottish Junior Cup – Round 3Anagach Wood, 19 September
The final round of the Scottish junior league was another great event.
The Scottish Junior Cup was a league of three events during the spring and summer of 2021, offering a set of high quality, fun, and competitive races, open to all junior orienteers in Scotland with age classes from M/W12 to M/W18. Results from each race counted towards an overall league for each age class, with all 3 races counting for final positions. The series was planned and organised by parents of juniors in the area squads and ScotJOS.
The third event was at Anagach Wood on Sunday 19 September, organised by the North area. Anagach Wood is at Grantown-on-Spey and is a mature pine forest on hummocky moraine with lots of marshes, giving some challenging navigation in lovely scenery. ESOC juniors Megan Brown (W14) and Calum Robertson (M12) competed, as well as various seniors from ESOC.
Calum reports:
“On Sunday 19th September we headed to Grantown-on-Spey for Round 3 of the Scottish Junior Cup at Anagach Wood. I have orienteered there before at a Highland Wolf event in 2015 but I was only 6 and I couldn't remember it. Megan Brown and I had entered but there were some other ESOC adults there too.
Although it had been raining overnight it stayed dry for the run. I liked how runnable it was in the woods. It was mainly short heather and very little bracken or brambles. The blaeberries were amazing. I didn't have a great run because I slipped and hurt my leg and when I got up I ran the wrong way along a path for quite a bit before I realised. I did enjoy it though.”
Full results from this event are here and the final league positions are now available on the Munro Leagues website (which also includes the results from all 3 events).
