Scottish Middle Distance Championships 2020Gleneagles Arena, 14 March
There was a great turnout from ESOC at the Scottish Middle Distance Championships, organised by Masterplan Adventure, and 6 of the champions were from ESOC.
Gleneagles Arena is near Auchterarder, in Perthshire, across the road from the famous hotel and golf courses. The pre-event details described the terrain as “a real mixture of open moorland, diffuse woodland and worked land”. It was fairly flat, so the courses had very little ascent. Most courses started in the south part of the map, where there was a strip of mature conifer woodland, then headed out into younger trees and open moorland, which was hard going. The later controls were on easier ground where there were many horse jumps and other manmade features. Junior and Women’s Hypervet courses started further north, near the finish, and looped around the northern part of the map.
The weather was dull but stayed dry much of the time, with a few showers for later starters, and it was quite mild. As a precaution against Covid-19 (coronavirus), the prizegiving was postponed, and there was little socialising.
There were 6 Scottish champions from ESOC:
Calum Robertson (M12), Maja Robertson (W14), Rachel Brown (W18), Alison Cunningham (W Supervet), Janice Nisbet (W Ultravet) and Eleanor Pyrah (W Hypervet).
Other ESOC members in the top half of the results for their class were:
M Supervet (22 competitors) – Keith Brown 8th=
M Ultravet (15) – Crawford Lindsay 2nd, Roger Garnett 3rd, Les Dalgleish 7th
W Open (17) – Rona Lindsay 7th
W Ultravet (10) – Margaret Dalgleish 2nd, Anne Hickling 5th
The full results are here, and further information about the event is available on the Scottish Middle Distance Championships page of the Masterplan Adventure website.
