Scottish Night Championships 2019John Muir Country Park, Saturday 2 February

Interløpers organised the 2019 Scottish Night Championships, and plenty of ESOC members braved freezing conditions in the dunes, with some excellent results.

John Muir Country Park is on the East Lothian coast near Dunbar, and the event centre was at East Links Family Park, which has a good café. The start and finish weren’t far away. The terrain includes two distinct areas: fairly flat mature pine forest with a good path network and a coastal fringe of open dunes; and more extensive dunes covered in marram grass on Spike Island, beyond the saltmarsh. The longest courses also crossed the Hedderwick Burn for a few controls.
It was a clear, chilly night with a light breeze, and underfoot conditions were good.

There were 6 Scottish champions from ESOC:
Ben Brown, M18
Ian Pyrah, M75
Rachel Brown, W16
Sarah Jones, W21
Judy Bell, W50
Eleanor Pyrah, W75

Other ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Course 1 (14 competitors) – Richard Purkis 6th
Course 2 (37) – Jim Martin 12th, Peter O’Hara 17th, Mark Rowe 18th
Course 3 (33) – Keith Brown 6th, Crawford Lindsay 14th
Course 5 (23) – Bill Stevenson 9th
Course 6 (4) – Maja Robertson 1st (1st Novice)
