Scottish Night Championships 2022Braid Hills, Saturday 12 February

This year’s Scottish Night Championships event was hosted by ESOC. This was the first part of the “Dark ‘n’ Dunes” weekend, and 5 of the champions are ESOC members.

The event was based at the Braid Hills Golf Centre, at the east end of the Braid Hills, with the start a short walk to the NW. The golf courses on the Braid Hills have fast running on the shorter grass of the fairways, carefully avoiding the greens and bunkers. There’s more complicated navigation amongst many small hills and gorse thickets, areas of rougher grass, and some patches of woodland. The longest courses crossed Braid Hills Road to reach the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill.
There was a chilly wind, with some showers, so the vegetation was very wet and paths were muddy.

There were 5 Scottish champions from ESOC:
Rona Lindsay – W21
Sarah Crawford – W35
Sally Lindsay – W65
Margaret Dalgleish – W70
Eleanor Pyrah – W75

Other ESOC members in the top half of the results for their age class were:
M50 (11 competitors) – Alistair Hindle 4th
M60 (10) – Richard Oxlade 3rd
M65 (10) – Crawford Lindsay 5th
M70 (4) – Les Dalgleish 2nd
W55 (11) – Alison Cunningham 5th, Helena Nolan 6th
