Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

Scottish Sprint Championships 2015Erskine, Saturday 14 February

The Scottish Sprint Championships was organised this year by Clydeside Orienteers, in the intricate housing estates of Erskine, and there were plenty of ESOC winners.

There was a good ESOC turnout for the Scottish Sprint Championships at Erskine, west of Glasgow, which is a complex area of modern housing, ideal for Sprint orienteering. The event centre was at St Anne’s Primary School, with good indoor facilities. Courses led through the maze of small pathways between the houses, with many twists and turns, and most of the running was on tarmac, though there was some grass and woodland. The weather was overcast but remained dry.

ESOC had 10 winners:
Megan Brown, W10
Helen Bridle, W35
Heather Thomson, W40
Helena Nolan, W45
Eleanor Pyrah, W70
Craig Nolan, M20
Terry Johnstone, M35
Mark Wood, M45
Ian Pyrah, M70
Jim Clark, M75

Other ESOC members who were in the top half of the results for their urban class were:
Open Men (12 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 2nd
Open Women (16) – Rona Lindsay 8th
Veteran Women 40+ (13) – Judy Bell 7th
Supervet Women 55+ (13) – Maggie Scrugham 2nd, Margaret Dalgleish 6th
Ultravet Men 65+ (9) – Roger Scrutton 3rd, Les Dalgleish 4th, Bill Stevenson 5th
