SOL 1 – 2014Devilla Forest, 16 March
There was an excellent ESOC attendance at the first event in the 2014 Scottish Orienteering League, which was organised by Kingdom of Fife Orienteers.
Devilla Forest is just across the Forth, near Kincardine. It’s a rough forest, with lots of heather, quite a few brambles, and many brashings in places. There was a remote start and finish, allowing courses to make the best of the area. Underfoot conditions were rather wet, and there were some deep ditches. The weather was dry and breezy.
The assembly area was on the E side of the forest, by the Walled Garden café, and many enjoyed the facilities there after their run.
ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Black (15 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 5th
Brown (42) – Chris Lewis 21st
Short Brown (29) – Clive Masson 15th
Blue (73) – Rona Lindsay 7th, Mike Stewart 13th, Crawford Lindsay 27th, Roger Garnett 32nd, Keith Brown 33rd, Andrew Waller 34th
Short Blue (42) – Alastair Lessells 8th, Roger Scrutton 16th, Ben Bate 21st
Green (53) – Maggie Scrugham 13th, Janice Nisbet 16th, Mary Williams 21st
Short Green (40) – Eleanor Pyrah 4th, Anne Stevenson 12th, Fiona Findlay 19th, Maureen Brown 20th
