SOL 1 – 2015Gullane Dunes, 8 March

The first event in the 2015 Scottish Orienteering League was organised by Interløpers at Gullane Dunes, near at hand in East Lothian, and ESOC turned out in force.

Gullane is a long, narrow area on the East Lothian coast, and the terrain includes open complex dunes, mature pine woods and complicated paths through thick sea buckthorn scrub. The map has been extended to take in the headlands west of the car park, with some rocky features and steeper ground. The longer courses had the excitement of one control that would be inaccessible at high tide – fortunately this was not till after the courses closed.
The weather was mostly dry, though quite windy, and underfoot conditions were good.

ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Black (24 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 12th
Brown (35) – Craig Nolan 13th, Rebecca Harding 17th, Rona Lindsay 18th
Blue (66) – Crawford Lindsay 30th
Short Blue (37) – Alison Cunningham 2nd, Alastair Lessells 8th, Roger Scrutton 9th,
Green (54) – Maggie Scrugham 9th, Ian Pyrah 11th, Lucie Duffy 27th
Short Green (39) – Anne Stevenson 10th, Eleanor Pyrah 12th, Katy Lessells 17th, Fiona Findlay 20th
Orange (25) – Rachel Brown 9th
Yellow (15) – Maja Robertson 3rd
