SOL 2, 2018Linn of Tummel, 8 April

ESOC organised the second event in the 2018 Scottish Orienteering League – with glorious weather, a good turnout of helpers, and logistical difficulties solved, everyone enjoyed the day.

The Linn of Tummel area lies on the hillside south of the River Tummel near Pitlochry. The higher ground is open and heathery, with many marshes and streams, some in deep valleys. The lower slopes have birch woodland, and in the lowest parts, north of the road, there’s more complex contour detail and many crags.

The logistical difficulties were due to the loss of the parking area at the Clunie Power Station. Competitors were bussed from Pitlochry to Assembly, and back again afterwards. The arrangements seemed to work well and there was a steady flow of competitors through the Start.
The weather was fine - morning mist soon burnt off in the warm sunshine, and a light breeze dried out the assembly field through the day.

ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Blue (48 competitors) – Ben Brown `12th, Heather Thomson 20th
Short Blue (31) – Alison Cunningham 2nd, Finlay Ross 3rd, Mike Stewart 12th, Roger Garnett 13th, Les Dalgleish 16th
Green (45) – Rachel Brown 2nd, Richard Oxlade 7th, Maggie Scrugham 10th, Alastair Lessells 13th, Alistair Armitage 16th
Short Green (33) – Janice Nisbet 2nd, Mary Williams 3rd, Margaret Dalgleish 4th, Dave Kershaw 17th
Orange (12) – Maja Robertson 1st
