SOL 2, 2019Dumyat, 31 March
ESOC turned out in force for the second event of the 2019 Scottish Orienteering League, and enjoyed challenging courses on a beautiful spring day.
This was the second event of Forth Valley Orienteers’ double header spring weekend. Dumyat is a distinctive hill at the western end of the Ochils, just north of Stirling, and parking and assembly were in Stirling University campus. The start for the White to Short Green courses was in the Hermitage Woods on the lower slopes of the hill, while the longer courses had a long, steep walk to their start. The shorter courses zig-zagged around the steep woodland, while the longer ones led out almost immediately onto the open hill, where the moorland was tussocky, with some steep slopes, crags and marshes. There were a few long legs with major route choices, descending to the woods for the final controls, before the finish near assembly. Many found the courses quite tough going, especially if they’d been at the previous day’s event too.
The weather was sunny and warm all day, and underfoot conditions were good.
ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
