Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SOL 3 – 2015Mark Hill, 12 April

There were excellent ESOC results at the third Scottish Orienteering League event of the year, though we had a modest turnout as it was very soon after the JK.

Mark Hill is near Rockcliffe, on the Solway coast south of Dalbeattie. The terrain was very rough, mainly coniferous forest, with many rock features and contour detail. Nearer the coast there were some open areas with confusing paths, and good views of the surrounding area. The longest courses had 2-part maps, double-sided, and there were Middle Distance courses for M and W21E (the same as Blue and Short Blue, respectively).
The weather was very wet to start with, then cleared up in time for the later starters, and eventually improved to a lovely sunny afternoon.

ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
M21E (3 competitors) – Andrew Lindsay 1st, Craig Nolan 2nd
W21E (5) – Claire Ward 1st, Rona Lindsay 3rd
Short Blue (26) – Helena Nolan 1st
Green (38) – Sally Lindsay 15th
Short Green (26) – Bill Stevenson 1st, Jim Clark 8th, Anne Stevenson 10th
Orange (14) – Rachel Brown 1st
White (5) – Megan Brown 1st
