There was a good turnout from ESOC for the final event in the 2025 Scottish Orienteering League, another trip to East Lothian, which was organised by Interløpers.

Gullane Dunes is a long, narrow area on the East Lothian coast, and the terrain includes open complex dunes, lots of tussocky grassland, mature pine woods and complicated paths through thick sea buckthorn scrub. Much of the area is fairly flat, though with short steep sections in the dunes. There were 3 starts, to make best use of the area for different length courses. Most people started NE of the Gullane Bents car park. There were a lot of controls, and the courses criss-crossed around the area, so all the TD5 courses had double-sided maps. Along the beach was a viable route choice on some legs. The longest courses also visited the rocky headlands W of the car park, where one part of the beach was out of bounds, because it would be impassable at high tide later in the afternoon.
The weather was fine and sunny, though breezy. Underfoot conditions were dry but very sandy.

ESOC results in the top half of their courses:

  • Brown (20 competitors) – Ben Brown 10th
  • Blue (66) – Calum Robertson 33rd
  • Short Blue (51) – Richard Oxlade 7th, Kevin Harding 13th, Peter O’Hara 22nd, Hanne Robertson 23rd
  • Green (32) – Alison Harding 6th, Sally Lindsay 10th
  • Short Green (25) – Margaret Dalgleish 3rd, Mary Williams 8th=, Judy Bell 11th
  • Very Short Green (18) – Dave Kershaw 3rd
  • Orange (18) – Adam Rowe 5th, Maria O’Hara 8th
  • Yellow (20) – Luke Durnall 4th
