SOL 5 – 2014Craig a Barns, 14 September

The first Scottish Orienteering League event after the summer was organised by ESOC, and had a good turnout of helpers as well as competitors.

Craig a Barns is just north of Dunkeld, and is a tough area, on a steep craggy hill, often quite rough underfoot, though it was relatively dry. The terrain is complex; a forested plateau split by a series of parallel valleys, with many crags, fallen trees and some areas of bracken. The longer courses started high, with a long and scenic walk to the start, to reach the best of the area. Although there were some very long times, there were also some impressively fast runs from a party of Swedish internationals who were visiting. The weather was dull but dry.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (35 competitors) – Claire Ward 7th
Short Brown (29) – Jonathan Ellis 9th
Short Blue (38) – Roger Scrutton 18th, Angus Shaw 19th
Green (41) – Sally Lindsay 19th
Short Green (28) – Bill Stevenson 2nd, Eleanor Pyrah 3rd
Light Green (38) – Kerry Wood 14th
Orange (32) – Rachel Brown 13th
White (11) – Laurence Ward 6th

Full results from the event are available in the 2014 ESOC Results Archive.
