SOL 5, 2019North Pentland Hills, 22 September
ESOC organised the fifth event in the 2019 Scottish Orienteering League, which also incorporated the 2019 Veteran Home International individual event.
The event centre was at Dreghorn Barracks, with a long walk to the senior start at Bonaly, while the junior start was nearer. Courses then snaked through the hills to the finish beside Chucklie Knowe, and there were some very long legs on the longest courses. The terrain was mostly open tussocky moorland, enlivened by complex contours, crags, marshes, and fences, plus areas of gorse and mixed woodland lower down. There are paths and tracks throughout the area.
ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Black (21 competitors) – Richard Purkis 11th
Blue (83) – Heather Thomson 34th, Isla Simmons 35th, Helena Nolan 38th
Short Blue (52) – Peter Halling 14th, Roger Garnett 17th
Green (63) – Rachel Brown 1st, Alison Cunningham 5th, Alastair Lessells 28th, Colin Tyre 31st
