SOL 5, 2023Devilla Forest, 29 October

The final event of the 2023 Scottish Orienteering League was organised by Kingdom of Fife Orienteers, and took place in challenging conditions.

Devilla Forest is on the north side of the Forth, east of Kincardine. The event centre was at Tulliallan Police College, and the indoor facilities were very welcome as it was a wet day, though not as bad as forecast. The Start and Finish were 2km away, beyond the Police College grounds. The final details described the terrain thus: “A tough, hard Scots pine forest with dense undergrowth. A network of wide forest tracks and smaller paths with some lochs. After a period of heavy rain many of the ditches may be difficult to cross.” The last point was confirmed by many people who had found the underfoot conditions very wet, but most enjoyed their courses.

ESOC results in the top half of their courses:
Blue (49 competitors) – Keith Brown 18th
Short Blue (35) – David Nisbet 15th, Finlay Ross 17th
Green (42) – Megan Brown 10th, Roger Garnett 17th, Les Dalgleish 21st
Short Green (34) – Margaret Dalgleish 2nd, Judy Bell 8th, Sally Lindsay 9th, Ian Pyrah 10th
Light Green (32) – Calum Robertson 2nd
