SOL 5, 2024Alvie, 27 October

The final event in the 2024 SOL series was organised by BASOC, in conjunction with the individual event in the 2024 Junior Inter-Area competition.

Alvie is just north of Kincraig, and is a varied area, mostly coniferous forest of various ages and thickness, with some steep slopes and also vaguer parts. The longest courses visited the open moorland higher up. Towards the finish, most had a few tricky controls in thicker vegetation. After a heavy shower before the first starts, the weather was cloudy and cool with just a few spots of rain from time to time.

ESOC results in the top half of their courses:

  • Short Blue (56) – Kevin Harding 8th, Hanne Robertson 23rd
  • Green (22) – Alison Harding 4th
  • Short Green (26) – Margaret Dalgleish 9th
  • Very Short Green (11) – Eleanor Pyrah 6th

Full results, including Routegadget, are available on the Alvie results page of the BASOC website.

Details of all the events in this year’s Scottish Orienteering League are on the SOL page of the Scottish Orienteering Association website.

This was also the Individual event for the 2024 Scottish Junior Inter-Area competition, an annual weekend of competition between the North, East and West Area juniors. The competition was won by North Area. East Area didn’t have a full team, and only had 8 counters, including Megan Brown, who came 3rd in the Short Blue Girls class, and Calum Robertson, who came 5th in the Blue Boys class.

The Junior Inter-Area Relays took place the previous day at Keppernach (near Nairn), along with a Regional event, where a few ESOC members competed. This event was organised by Inverness Orienteering Club, and results for the relays and the Regional event are available here.
