SOL 6, 2016Fairy Knowe & Doon Hill, 2 October

The sixth event in this year’s Scottish Orienteering League was presented by Clydeside Orienteers, and plenty of ESOC members competed.

Fairy Knowe and Doon Hill lies to the south of Aberfoyle, and the map had been extended to the northwest for this event. The terrain was quite varied, with hills and flatter marshy areas, ancient oak woodland, younger mixed woodland and coniferous plantation (some of it very thick). It was wet underfoot and very muddy in places. Many found the area quite tough, and there were some long times, as well as retirals. The weather was glorious - sunny and warm all day.

ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Blue (67 competitors) - Tyler Morrison 25th, Crawford Lindsay 27th, Keith Brown 33rd, Heather Thomson 34th
Short Blue (49) - Roger Garnett 8th, Alastair Lessells 13th
Green (48) - Margaret Dalgleish 12th, Maggie Scrugham 14th
Short Green (33) - Mary Williams 4th, Fiona Findlay 5th, Eleanor Pyrah 9th , Janet Clark 10th, Rachel Fawthrop 11th
Light Green (25) - Rachel Brown 5th
Orange (26) - Maja Robertson 13th
White (9) - Calum Robertson 1st
