SoSOL 5 - 2012/13Drumpellier Country Park, 24 February
The first South of Scotland Orienteering League event of 2013 was organised by STAG, and there was a great turnout from ESOC, with some excellent results.
Drumpellier Country Park is on the edge of Coatbridge, east of Glasgow. The main entrance and visitor centre are by a loch, with many water birds, and the surrounding area includes lowland heath, mixed woodlands and open grassland. It’s surprisingly wild in places, and was quite wet underfoot. Because it’s reasonably flat, the courses were fairly long, and the longest ones had 2-part maps, allowing the use of multiple loops which made the most of the area.
The weather was luckily dry, though quite cold. Many people enjoyed the café in the Visitor Centre after their runs.
ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (12 competitors) – Andrew Dalgleish 3rd, Jim Martin 6th
Blue (29) – Mike Stewart 8th, Keith Brown 12th
Green (37) – Alison Cunningham 4th, Alastair Lessells 7th, Janice Nisbet 9th, Margaret Dalgleish 12th, Sally Lindsay 13th, Simon Firth 17th, Judy Bell 19th
Light Green (17) – Gill Martin 1st, Hugh Duffy 5th
Orange (8) – Ben Brown 1st
Yellow (3) – Rachel Brown 1st
Full results, Routegadget and comments are available on the STAG website.
