SoSOL2, 2018Binning Wood, 28 January
The second event in this year’s South of Scotland Orienteering League was presented by East Lothian Orienteers, and saw a good turnout from ESOC, with some great results.
Binning Wood lies between North Berwick and Dunbar in East Lothian, and was the venue for the 2017 Scottish Relays. It’s a mature forest of conifers and beech, much of it very pleasant, though it was often rough, with many rhododendron thickets and also areas of brambles. The terrain is mostly flat, with a network of paths and rides radiating out from three large circular clearings (making it very easy to choose the wrong path!) It was quite wet underfoot, with some very muddy parts and a few deep ditches.
The weather was dull with a little drizzle, but turned out better than forecast, and was milder than at the previous SoSOL event.
ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (12 competitors) – Mark Rowe 6th
Blue (29) – Peter O’Hara 5th, Ben Brown 9th, Tyler Morrison 11th, Crawford Lindsay 15th
Green (45) – Finlay Ross 6th, Alastair Lessells 10th, Leonne Hutchinson 11th, Mark Wood 12th, Roger Garnett 14th, Hanne Robertson 17th, Sally Lindsay 21st, Ian Pyrah 23rd
Short Green (16) – Margaret Dalgleish 1st, Janice Nisbet 3rd, Bill Stevenson 4th, Anna Morgan 7th, Anne Stevenson 8th
Light Green (6) – Joseph Lawlor 1st, Jamie Lawlor 3rd
White (9) – Adam Rowe 4th, Catherine Rowe 5th
