Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL2, 2020Corstorphine Hill, 23 February

The second event in the 2020 South of Scotland Orienteering League was organised by ESOC; many ESOC members were busy helping as well as competing, but they had some great results.

Corstorphine Hill is on the west side of Edinburgh, and is well known to many in ESOC. It’s a Local Nature Reserve, and is mostly wooded, with some steep slopes on the east side, and open grassy areas on the western side. There are lots of crags and boulders throughout the area, and a good path network. The assembly area was in Barnton Quarry, towards the north end of the hill, with the start and finish nearby. The courses looped around the hill, and the longest ventured down into the extension at the south end too.
In contrast to recent days, the weather was sunny and dry, though there was a cold wind.

ESOC members in the top half of the results for their course were:
Blue (39 competitors) – Mark Rowe 4th, Isla Simmons 8th, Walter Clark 11th, Helena Nolan 13th, Finlay Ross 18th
Green (48) – Alastair Lessells 6th, Katherine Kirk 7th, Alistair Armitage 13th, Margaret Dalgleish 14th, David Lane 18th, Les Dalgleish 19th, Roger Garnett 20th, Juliette Maire 21st, Rachel Fawthrop 22nd, Colin Tyre 23rd, Hanne Robertson 24th
