Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL2 -  2011/12Clyde Muirshiel Country Park, 12 February

There was a modest turnout from ESOC for the second event in this season’s South of Scotland Orienteering League, which was organised by Clydeside Orienteers.

Clyde Muirshiel Country Park is in the hills to the west of Glasgow, near Lochwinnoch, and is known for the hen harriers that nest there in late spring. The terrain is open moorland, mostly very soggy on this occasion, but fairly runnable, and longer courses had one or two controls in woodland near the visitor centre at the end. Fortunately the area, known as Windy Hill, did not live up to its name, and conditions were quite mild. Indoor download, toilets and refreshments facilities were well-received.

ESOC competitors in the top half of the results were:
Blue (32 competitors) – Gemma Karatay 3rd, Heather Thomson 8th
Green (37) – Keith Brown 1st, Alastair Lessells 4th, Janice Nisbet 12th, Bill Stevenson 12th, Sally Lindsay 18th
Yellow (7) – Rachel Brown 2nd
