Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL3, 2016Kames, 21 August

There was a good ESOC turnout for AYROC’s South of Scotland Orienteering League event, which was originally scheduled to take place in February, but had to be postponed due to bad weather.

Kames is a new orienteering area, to the south of Muirkirk, in Ayrshire. The terrain is open, mostly rough pasture, with former mine workings giving lots of intricate contour detail, and there were many pits.
The weather was dull, with showers, brightening later. Following heavy rain the previous day, the ground was very wet and it was slow going.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (15 competitors) – Craig Nolan 4th
Blue (35) – Jim Martin 3rd, Martin Quirke 6th, Alison Cunningham and Heather Thomson 11th=, Crawford Lindsay 13th, Mark Wood 15th, Finlay Ross 17th
Green (43 competitors) – Kerry Wood 6th, Alastair Lessells 10th, Roger Garnett 22nd
Short Green (13) – Roger Scrutton 1st, Heidi Ross 5th, Jim Clark 6th
Light Green (7) – Rachel Brown 1st
White (7) – Megan Brown 1st, Calum Robertson 2nd, Holly Ross 3rd

Full results are available in the SoSOL 3 event item on the AYROC website.
