SoSOL3, 2018Pollok Country Park, 11 February
There was another good turnout from ESOC for the third event in this year’s South of Scotland Orienteering League, organised by STAG.
Pollok Country Park is in Glasgow, SW of the centre, and is Glasgow's largest park. Although this event took place in the same area as the previous evening’s Scottish Night Championships, it was a different map - brand new, using a very clear 1:5,000 scale, on A3 paper. The event centre was on the east side of the park at Nether Pollok playing fields. Those who had been there the previous night appreciated the chance to see the area in daylight. It was very wet underfoot, with lots of mud, and although there was thick undergrowth in places to slow people down, there were some fast runs.
The weather was quite cold, but stayed dry, and the sun came out later on.
ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Blue (33 competitors) – Ben Brown 4th, Heather Thomson 5th, Tyler Morrison 9th, Keith Brown 12th, Peter O’Hara 13th, Finlay Ross 15th, Crawford Lindsay 17th
Green (35) – Rachel Brown 2nd, Mark Wood 4th, Alastair Lessells 5th, Les Dalgleish 15th, Jim Morrison 17th
Short Green (13) – Margaret Dalgleish 1st, Bill Stevenson 2nd, Anne Stevenson 3rd, Fiona Findlay 5th, Katy Lessells 7th
Light Green (6) – Helena Nolan 1st, Jamie Lawlor 2nd, Joseph Lawlor 3rd
Yellow (6) – Aisling Stuart 1st
