Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club

SoSOL4, 2017Eildon Hills, 26 March

Roxburgh Reivers presented the fourth South of Scotland Orienteering League event of this year’s series, on a warm spring day. There was a good ESOC attendance, with some great results.

The Eildon Hills are in the Scottish Borders just south of Melrose, full of legends about fairies, King Arthur, and more. The start was on the NE side of the hills, and the longer courses had some long legs right across the hills. Most controls were in the woodland on the south side, with the finish on the eastern side. Many found the going quite tough, and there were some long times.
The weather was warm and sunny, with good views from the open hill, but it was often quite wet and muddy underfoot.

ESOC members in the top half of the results were:
Brown (11 competitors) - Jonathan Ellis 2nd, Mark Wood 6th
Blue (24) - Walter Clark 4th, Tyler Morrison 9th, Alison Cunningham 10th
Green (42) - Rona Lindsay 1st, Finlay Ross 3rd, Dave Kershaw 4th, Roger Garnett 6th, Maggie Scrugham 8th, Alastair Lessells 9th, Tim Westmoreland 10th, Ben Brown 19th, Kerry Wood 21st
Short Green (15) - Margaret Dalgleish 1st, Heidi Ross 2nd, Robert Findlay 3rd, Janet Clark 4th, Anne Stevenson 6th, Leonne Hutchinson 8th
Light Green (10) - Rachel Brown 1st
Orange (8) - Joseph Lawlor 4th
